Search for the Valley of Flowers trek cost and you will see numbers from under ₹5,000 to over ₹30,000. Both are true, because they describe different trips. This guide breaks the cost into the parts you actually pay for, gives a worked budget for a plain DIY trip and a comfortable one, and compares what packages charge. All prices are 2026 figures from published guides, operator pages and trekkers' own reports. They change every season, so treat them as a planning range and confirm locally.

A worked DIY budget (per person, 5 days from Rishikesh)
This assumes the usual five-day pattern: travel to Joshimath or Govindghat, two nights in Ghangaria, and a night near Govindghat on the way down. The comfortable column assumes you share a room with one other person and ride a mule one way. It is our own estimate built from the line-item prices below, not a quote.
| Item | Shoestring | Comfortable |
|---|---|---|
| Bus or shared taxi, Rishikesh to Govindghat and back | ₹1,400 to ₹2,000 | ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 |
| Jeep, Govindghat to Pulna and back | ₹100 to ₹200 | ₹100 to ₹200 |
| Joshimath or Govindghat, 2 nights | ₹1,200 to ₹2,000 | ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 (share of a room) |
| Ghangaria, 2 nights | ₹1,000 to ₹1,600 (dorm bed) | ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 (share of a room) |
| Mule, Pulna to Ghangaria, one way | Walk | ₹800 to ₹1,200 |
| Food, 5 days | ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 | ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 |
| Park entry permit | ₹200 | ₹200 |
| Small extras (stick, poncho, charging, tea) | ₹500 to ₹1,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 |
| Total | ₹6,400 to ₹10,000 | ₹10,800 to ₹17,600 |
Other trip reports land in the same range. One 2026 guide puts a budget DIY trip at ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 from Delhi and a mid-range one at ₹12,000 to ₹20,000. Another puts a comfortable self-planned trip at ₹12,000 to ₹18,000.

DIY or package?
On paper a package costs about what a comfortable DIY trip does, and some cost less. The real difference is risk. Operators book Ghangaria rooms months ahead, so in peak season a solo traveller can arrive to find the cheap beds gone. A trekker on Reddit put it bluntly.
What trekkers say
“agencies book a lot of rooms in advance. the Gurudwara offers free dormitory stays/food, suggest booking through an agency.”
“Stay at Govindghat Gurudwara is still possible but Ghangria stays should Ideally be prebooked.”
- DIY suits you if your dates are flexible, you are happy with a dorm bed, and you can travel outside the mid-July to mid-August rush.
- A package suits you if you travel in peak season, want rooms guaranteed, or are trekking for the first time.
- Whichever you choose, the trail is the same stone path with the same crowds.
What packages cost in 2026
These prices were advertised on the operators' own pages when we checked. We list them for comparison only. We have no affiliation with any of them and this is not a recommendation. Check the inclusions, because the same number can mean very different trips.
| Operator | Advertised price | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| Universal Adventures | ₹6,499 from Joshimath, ₹7,999 from Rishikesh | Five nights, six days |
| Ban Banjara | ₹6,250 per adult | Valley of Flowers with Hemkund Sahib |
| Indiahikes | ₹13,950, plus ₹3,400 for transport to and from base camp | Offloading a bag costs ₹800 extra |
| TrekNomads (Premium) | ₹32,999 per person | Nine-day premium trip |
A reviewer on Tripadvisor reported ₹5,499 plus 5% GST ex-Dehradun for a similar trip with another operator. At least one operator gives no cash refund close to departure, only a voucher.
Questions to ask before you pay a package
- Where does the price start: Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun or Joshimath?
- Is road transport to Govindghat included, or only a jeep to Pulna?
- What are the Ghangaria beds: dorm, shared room or tent? How many people per room?
- Are the park permit, GST and meals included?
- Does the price cover a mule or porter, or a helicopter seat?
- What happens to your money if a landslide blocks the road?
Costs people forget
What trekkers say
“They will charge you a fortune in ghangria to dry them over charcoal. Try to avoid getting your shoes wet if it doesn't rain.”
- Spare days. A landslide can add a night. Budget roughly ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per extra day for a shared room and meals.
- Wet shoes. Trekkers report that drying them over charcoal in Ghangaria can be expensive, so keep your shoes dry if you can.
- Charging and snacks. Power banks and tea add up, and one 2026 guide estimates ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 for such extras.
- Gear. If you buy trekking shoes, a poncho and a bag cover for one trip, gear can cost more than the trek.
- Cash. Ghangaria and the valley have no reliable mobile network, so UPI may not work. Withdraw cash in Joshimath or Govindghat before you climb.
Ways to save that actually work
- Take the Ghangaria gurdwara dorm if you are comfortable with it. It is free and the langar is free.
- Split a four-bed room with friends. A four-bed room at ₹1,000 in Govindghat and ₹2,000 in Ghangaria was reported on Reddit, which is ₹250 to ₹500 each in a group of four.
- Use buses and shared taxis unless you are a group. A private cab costs ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per vehicle, against ₹700 to ₹1,000 a seat on a bus.
- Walk to Ghangaria if you can. Trekkers describe the 10 km stone path as easy to moderate, and a mule is one of the larger optional costs.
- Leave bulk luggage at your Govindghat hotel and carry a 30 to 40 litre pack.
- Go midweek and book Ghangaria early. Peak-bloom weekends are when rooms are most expensive.
Mules are also a nuisance for walkers, since the path is narrow and busy. Step to the hillside and let them pass.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Valley of Flowers trek cost for 5 days?
About ₹6,500 to ₹10,000 on a shoestring plan and ₹11,000 to ₹17,500 for a comfortable one, per person from Rishikesh. Add ₹600 to ₹3,000 for Delhi to Rishikesh.
Can I do it for under ₹5,000?
Reports exist, but it leaves no spare money for a landslide delay or a mule. We would not plan on it.
Is the helicopter worth it?
Only for those who cannot walk 10 km. It costs roughly ₹3,000 to ₹6,500 each way and flies only in good weather, and it still leaves the walk into the valley.
Do I need to carry cash?
Yes. Mobile networks are patchy at Govindghat and unreliable at Ghangaria and in the valley. Withdraw in Joshimath or Govindghat.
Do I need a guide?
No. The trail is well marked and busy in season. A local guide costs ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 a day if you want one.
Does the cost include Hemkund Sahib?
Visiting Hemkund Sahib adds a day of food and lodging in Ghangaria but no separate entry ticket, so it is usually a cheap add-on.
Are the prices fixed?
Mule rates are set by the local association. Rooms and food vary with the season and demand, and rise in July and August.
